Who Should Join MRA? 

Membership is open to anyone interested in reading instruction and literacy in Massachusetts. MRA members include classroom teachers, literacy specialists, special education teachers, librarians, administrators, university and college professors, college students, parents, and others interested in the promotion of literacy for all.

Mission Statement 

The mission of the Massachusetts Reading Association is to promote reading and writing for all learners through professional development, research, publications, and advocacy. 

 

Major Purposes of MRA 

  • To support the improvement and quality of reading/language arts instruction and to promote professional standards for teaching literacy 

  • To stimulate and promote research in the field of literacy 

  • To work with, support, and serve as a liaison for the local councils and the International Reading Association 

  • To foster interaction among those interested in literacy for all 

  • To provide a forum for exchange of ideas with leaders in the field of literacy education 

  • To disseminate knowledge helpful in addressing issues related to reading/language arts 

  • To help parents become involved with the literacy development of their children 

  • To encourage reading as a lifelong habit
