Write for MRA Publications!

We publish twice a year and are always looking for new authors and perspectives. Our peer-reviewed journal is called The MRA Beacon: Journal of Literacy Learning and Research, and it is published every winter. A practitioner-focused publication is called MRA Today; look for it in the summer.

Call for Submissions for the MRA Beacon 2026

The MRA Beacon: Journal of Literacy Learning & Research is seeking research or articles about transformative literacy practices. This includes how scholars and educators reimagine literacy as a dynamic tool for empowerment, inclusion, and social change. The deadline to submit for the December 2026 edition is October 1, 2026. The editors seek research-based feature articles. These articles are full-length papers that discuss research studies or present theoretical arguments. Word count: 5,000-6,000.

Please note that your manuscript should be carefully edited before submission and follow the American Psychological Association (APA, 7th edition) publication guidelines. Direct quotes within the manuscript must include a page or paragraph number in the citation. Citations must be used within the text, and a reference list must be included at the end of the manuscript. Include a two-to-three sentence author biography with your manuscript. MRA Today

A short, practitioner-focused publication is filled with short, informative articles related to the selected theme, aimed at stimulating conversations around a current topic. Look for MRA Today’s call for submissions in the Beacon and on this webpage around December. The deadline to submit is March 1st, and we hope to publish in June. The editors look for practitioner-focused articles or classroom connections relevant to PK-12 classrooms. Word count: 1,500 - 2,500  

The MRA Beacon: Journal of Literacy Learning and Research

A full-length, peer-reviewed journal with at least 5-6 articles on the selected theme. The MRA Beacon: Journal of Literacy Learning and Research can contain research articles written by faculty, teachers, administrators, or specialists and is published in December each year.
